Former Republican National Committee Chair Michael Steele ripped Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) for urging Florida voters not to monkey this up by voting for his Democratic gubernatorial opponent, Andrew Gillum, who is African-American.
Its how white folks talk about black men who are successful, Steele said on MSNBCs Meet the Press.
Steele also criticized DeSantis for calling Gillum articulate.
I heard that hes articulate, that he performs well, hes checking off those boxes. Why do you have to describe him that way? he said. "Doesnt happen to a lot of white candidates," he added, echoing host Chuck Todd's comment.
DeSantis's comments came during an appearance on Fox News, one day after winning his GOP primary.
You know, this is a guy, although hes much too liberal for Florida, I think hes got huge problems with how hes governed Tallahassee," DeSantis said of the Gillum. Lets build off the success weve had on Gov. Scott. The last thing we need to do is to monkey this up by trying to embrace a socialist agenda with huge tax increases bankrupting the state. That is not going to work," he later said.
Numerous people quickly condemned DeSantis's comments.
Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Terrie Rizzo took aim DeSantis's initial remarks after the interview, saying in a statement, "It's disgusting that Ron DeSantis is launching his general election campaign with racist dog whistles."
Fox News host Sandra Smith, speaking on behalf of the network on Wednesday, said, "We do not condone this language and wanted to make our viewers aware that he has since clarified his statement."
DeSantis's campaign has denied that the candidate was criticizing Gillum because of his race.
Ron DeSantis was obviously talking about Florida not making the wrong decision to embrace the socialist policies that Andrew Gillum espouses. To characterize it as anything else is absurd," DeSantis communications director Stephen Lawson said in a statement to The Hill.
FUMS!
Hey Hey
Were the Monkeys
We love to monkey around
Amazing. Kicking one while he needs a little help.
You can’t even complement a person without being accused of racism? What’s wrong with being articulate? They called Trump and Bush Jr. inarticulate simpletons. Didn’t Kennedy or Biden (or both) speak about Obama in similar terms of being “articulate, well spoken”?
Michael Steele is a total cuck and disgrace.
It’s also how Jewish sports announcers describe elusive running backs, Chuck Berry describes the problems he’s had, plumbers describe an adjustable pipe wrench, and kindergartners of all colors describe the Jungle Jims in the school playground.
The snake come out into the open.
Bad comment, muddled would have been better. The left is feral.
Can we see Barack Hussein Obamas college records yet?
Birth Cert?
I am asking a serious question.....Do Blacks think they look like monkeys or something.. I cannot figure out why they are so upset when a white person says the WORD Monkey??
Oh My God. They just never stop.
Well, technically they were the Monkees, but they did Monkey around.
“Didnt Kennedy or Biden (or both) speak about Obama in similar terms of being articulate, well spoken?”
But Clinton told someone that in a “different time,” Obola would have been getting them coffee (or is is cofeffe?).
Steele is a Bush League Republican.
They would rather help the Democrat when their guy loses the primary.
Howard Cosell was a total liberal, got in trouble for saying about OJ “Look at the little monkey go!” During a run, not the murder or attempted escape.
Well at least De Santis didn’t use the word “niggardly” because if he had, he probably would have been arrested or lynched by now.
The race-baiters have completely lost their minds..........
In 2008, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid referenced then-presidential candidate Barack Obama as a “light-skinned” African-American “with no negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”
