Democratic gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum (Fla.) on Wednesday said his opponent, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), as well as President Trump, have "done everything that they could to undermine the FBI."
Gillum made the comment in response to a question from Fox News anchor Shep Smith, who asked the Tallahassee mayor about an ongoing FBI investigation into corruption in the city's government. Gillum has said he is confident the investigation has nothing to do with him.
"Ive got no doubt in saying that I dont expect any trouble my way because I know my conscience, I know how I vote, I know what my values and principles are," Gillum said.
"The difference between me and Ron DeSantis, obviously, when it comes to the FBI, is Ive welcomed their investigation to get to the bottom of any corruption that might exist," he said. "In his case, he and Donald Trump have done everything that they could to undermine the FBI."
Trump-backed DeSantis has stood by the president as he escalates attacks against Attorney General Jeff Sessions and criminal investigations emanating from the Justice Department.
Gillum won Florida's Democratic gubernatorial primary in a stunning upset win on Tuesday, toppling Rep. Gwen Graham (D), who was favored to win. Many have pointed to his win as evidence that progressives are playing a pivotal role in this year's midterms.
In an April letter to the Justice Department, DeSantis asked the Justice Department to investigate multiple former Obama-era officials including former FBI Director James Comey, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, former Acting Director of the FBI Andrew McCabe and former FBI Agent Peter Strzok.
"Justice must be blind, not partisan," he wrote at the time. "We must conduct a thorough investigation into the potential abuses of power for politically motivated reasons committed by Justice Department and FBI officials."
Used to be the Feeb-Eye guys hunted down the pinkos.
Now it seems like they work for them.
True that, it’s really sad.
The only people that have undermined the FBI are agents of the FBI!
Because Gillum has so much confidence in ones like Strzok and Page, lol.

I honestly don’t see how this is even close in Florida. I am sure the MSM will portray it as a horse race but it won’t be. This guy has huge problems in his own city.
Look! The new darling of democrat party!!
it’s gonna be so much fun watching this idiot lose by 30 points
The FBI has done everythign it can to bring down the FBI.
From hiring incompetent partisan criminals, to harassing political opponents in witch hunts, the FBI needs a top-down review.
A supposed Bernie socialist who believes in the Fascist FBI and its unchecked power. Wonder what Comrade Bern would say about that?
Agreed, Gillum’s going to be beat like a rented mule.
no- that’s the way liberals feel- more importantly, where does he stand on ICE?
i hope you are correct but just be careful- thats what the left was saying about us/Donald Trump two years ago...
Support Free Republic, Folks!
Just another socialist who wants to abolish ICE.
Notice Shemp didn’t ask him about ICE...
FBI did it themselves.
Certainly Mr. Gillum’s concern about the FBI has nothing to do with possible vote-buying his friend and former campaign treasurer, Mr. Corey, is under investigation for.
For some reason, Gillum’s people went bonkers over a cropped photo the Tallahassee Democrat was going to publish.
I am not saying a candidate like Gillum can’t win. I am saying that it won’t play well in Florida. If I were DeSantis, I would hang Talahasee’s problems around this guy’s neck like an albatross.
But let’s put it all aside for a sec. This is a race for governor of Florida. A statewide race but one that affects Florida.
DeSantis is running on issues that are germane to the state and what affects people’s day to day lives. This guy is running on stuff above his pay grade, stuff more appropriate for the Senatorial race. I don’t see it playing well.
