People don’t get the three different monkey figures of speech. Having a monkey on your back meant that you were addicted to heroin when I was a kid. “Monkeying it up” describes the behavior of monkeys in a zoo throwing fecal material. Monkeying around is fooling around. (I used to speak fluent vernacular.) I thought the offended were agenda-driven, but they could be just ignorant. Or maybe I’m wrong. :)
