I had always assumed that a senator from a given state usually had a connection, however tangential, to that state. However, the careers of the Kennedy family and Hillary Clinton has proven otherwise. Does Sarah Palin even live in Arizona?

Jon Kyl makes a good interim to get past the election drama and not mess up the election plans.
I’m thinking its not going to be Boobs or Cindy.
If a deal had been reached, McCain would have gone for it.
Only his girly man pouting kept him from retiring before his death.

Mc Cain should have been declared unable to do the job as far back as last January and a replacement made at that time.

Dying in office provides substantial PERKS and honors and that's what McCain selfishly wanted, same for Teddy Kennedy.

The primary is on 8-28, Tuesday, and the funeral is on 8-29, Wednesday.

I’m not seeing Cindy McCain as the replacement. She has a beer distributorship to run and rumor has it she has a longtime boyfriend in AZ.

“Does Sarah Palin even live in Arizona?”

Yes. At least she has a home there. Not sure if she lives there full-time now or not.

The state of Arizona didn’t elect someone to control the country. The seat in the senate they were privileged to elect someone to is for assisting in the running of the country, not the other way around. Get the seat filled. McCain’s death does not mean the end of the senate’s work, just the end of McCain’s. The country has business to properly administer to. Wanna recognize him? Great. But to me he is just another piece of the government that Arizona and the rest of the country depends upon to handle their representation in a house of congress. It is not the only seat there and is a job, not a coronation.

It would sheer political insanity for Governor, Ducey to name a McCain family member to fill the remaining term of McCain.

I would hope the Governor would have taken note of the lack of of mourners lining the roads, highways & freeways of Arizona as the McCain motorcade left the ranch the evening McCain passed on. Oh, yes, the Washington, elite, political establishment & media will fawn all over McCain...the average rank and file American could care less!!! Ho-Hum!!!

She moved back to Wasilla in 2016. Both she and her daughter sold their homes in AZ.

Bummer. Didn’t know that. I don’t blame them; living in Alaska is wonderful. Did it for 20 years. Best. Fun. Ever.

I personally won’t hold my breath on it....

I do expect the GOP to gain 6+ this fall, but have little faith they will vote to repeal Obamacare....

So, if McSally loses the primary, she gets the seat?

McSally losing is hypothetical. But then that’s interesting! I say appoint someone with a fire in the belly-willing to face the voters 2 more times. Then there’s the Buckley rule. Who is safest? Gov Brewer? 10 years in the Senate will make her 83 years old. She needs a full medical exam.

Didn’t he say in his book if we didn’t agree with him we can go to hell? I am not voting for Ducey in tomorrow’s primary because he is going to screw us by appointing either himself or a McCain to the seat. It will not be a conservative.

stupid? ahem. anyway, actually i think we need someone dependable for Trump. i think Kyl neutralizes any McCain family successor because he is well liked and well respected = totally non-controversial. the other obvious contenders are, well, contending — for Flake’s seat. anyway, we shall see.

“Yes. At least she has a home there. Not sure if she lives there full-time now or not.”

The Palin family cashed out of Arizona in 2016.
Todd and Sarah bought their Scottsdale house in 2011 for $1.75 million.
They sold it in 2016 for $2.275 million.
Not even sure they’ve visited since then.

I wonder why they went to AZ in the first place. Doesn’t really make sense. And Scottsdale ... so UN-Alaskan. None of my business, anyhow.

“why not Jon Kyl as a placeholder?”

This would be a great choice as a caretaker until 2020. Dan Quayle would be a great choice too but unlikely to take the job.

“So, if McSally loses the primary, she gets the seat?”

I voted for Ward and acknowledge McSally will win easily. She has a commanding lead in the polls and her latest TV ad goes after Simema, not the Republican candidates.

Ward won’t get the seat either. She blew it even though she had Hannity, Ingraham, Paul, Gorka, Levin, etc. endorsing her.
