What it tells us that John McCain drank vodka with Hillary Clinton
CNN ^ | 9/26/2018 | Timothy Stanley

John McCain once took on Hillary Clinton in a drinking contest. It was at a restaurant in Estonia in 2004, during a congressional tour. Both politicians managed four shots of vodka; the rules were unclear, but Hillary -- McCain's one-time political rival -- was declared the winner, according to the restaurant proprietor (though in her own account, Clinton said they "agreed to withdraw in honorable fashion," rather than name a winner).

That image sums up the humanity and character of the late Senator McCain, who will be mourned deeply on both sides of the political aisle. He embodied a more moderate brand of conservatism -- one that could separate politics and friendship -- that now feels distant and very much missed.

John Keating Five McCain. Never could figure out why he wasnt forced to resign his seat after taking payoff money during the Savings and Loan scandal way back. Not a man of honor at all. He will answer to a higher power.

I've often wondered why a conservative state like Arizona couldn't do better than McCain during the primaries. It's not as though we're dealing with New York or New Jersey where anyone to the right of Pataki or Christie doesn't have a prayer of winning the general election.

The bottom line is that I wish AZ voters rather than cancer had gotten rid of this guy a long time ago.

McCain was always in the back pocket of the worst people: Charles Keating, various terrorist groups (Kosovo Liberation Army, Al Nusra front in Syria), buddies with Ted Kennedy and Cuck Schumer on campaign finance reform and immigration amnesty, etc. No wonder he was the Democrats' favorite Republican.

Trump doesn’t drink. Yes, they’ve been to the same Manhattan parties, but Trump wasn’t drinking.

That’s part of how he knows so well how the Left operates. He’s been watching and listening to them for years, sober, while they were drinking.

That picture says it all and also manages to impart a feeling of nausea.

Come now, Trump and Hillary have had drinks too. CNN forgets this so as to not humanize him, and you forget this for the “cut from the same cloth” thing. There is no such thing as friends in politics. Only connections. All 3 of these people knew this.

The difference is that McCain never extended the same graciousness and gestures of camaraderie towards Trump that he routinely extended to Hillary and Obama.

Yes, you are correct. He doesn’t drink.

The sentiment was still there. Trump was friends with our enemies before he was their enemy.

Now I have my usual 4 paragraph disclaimer at this point, but I hope all have read my stuff enough to know where I stand on the greatest American President, Donald J Trump.

The danger in letting people think these things about McCain is that they think it’s unique. Don’t forget what the playing field looks like.

Theory was that John McCain (the only republican charged in the Keating Five conspiracy, a fellow combat flier and with a “returned American hero” image carefully constructed by the national press corpse) was included in the Keating Five to “dilute” the impact of Ohio’s John Glenn’s connection.

“Couldn’t” charge John Glenn as a criminal! “Couldn’t charge only democrats in that scandal!

So McCain was tarred with the accusation. Which on the face of it seems correct, but - did you notice that the Keating Five charges are ONLY thing John McCain did not “fight to the death” over? That he accepted the charges as written, accepted quietly the (lack of a) penalty from the Senate?

Unlike anything he ever did in his life, John McCain just meekly accepted them and got back into his next re-election campaign.

Only because McCain isn’t a New Yorker.

Trump and Hillary know each other, while I doubt Trump and Obama know each other.

Trump and Hillary are neighbors in several of their NY communities.

That is true—but we don’t get on our high horse pontificating to foreigners about the inner details of their politics that we are worse than uninformed on, but misinformed on!

Scary, both McCain and Kennedy drank vodka and died on the same day 9 years apart.

Now look at Cankles. She looks worse than Keith Richards (he drinks Jack).

Moral of the story: vodka kills.

I crack me up.

“That image sums up the humanity and character of the late Senator McCain”

How so?? The image sums up nothing other than two 100% politicians behaving as two 100% politicians. Nothing else. Were there no political hay - as in “see, I can talk to the other side” - to make of the event, neither McCain nor Clinton would have done it.
