Wow, just realized his mother, Roberta McCain is still alive -age 106.
His first wife is still living as well. Carol McCain lives in Virginia Beach, near her son, who is a retired Naval aviator. John McCain treated her badly when he returned from the Hanoi Hilton and began bedding every woman he could find. Carol McCain went through her own hell while her husband was a POW; she nearly died in a car accident that left her four inches shorter, due to damage to her back and spine.
When McCain met Cindy, he gave Carol McCain the heave-ho; she got his Navy pension and their savings; John got the trophy wife and access to a vast fortune to support his political ambitions and a comfortable lifestyle. Yet, Carol McCain has never said a negative word (publicly) about her ex-husband and even endorsed him for president in 2008.
BTW, Carol McCain worked in the White House protocol office for Ronaldus Magnus. One reason she got the job is that President Reagan was shocked at how she had been dumped by McCain, and even with a retired Navy CAPT’s pension for alimony, she was struggling to support herself and the children who were still at home.
McCain claimed to have been a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution, but a lot of people in the White House soured on “the Maverick” after he fecklessly dumped his wife for the newer and richer model.
