My wife and I watch a lot of British crime dramas. One thing that's always striking is there are just two classes of people possessing firearms. Specially equipped squads of police, virtually identical in appearance and tactics to our SWAT teams, and criminals.
Regular "Coppers" go about armed only with nerve, attitude, sometimes an invariably effective Tazer, and apparent preternatural unarmed take down skills. Small female police are able to subdue big blokes bold enough to take them on with simple flips of their fragile wrists. If they know beforehand that firearms might be present (since all firearms including shotguns from Cromwell's time are "registered") they call in the above mentioned Special Weapons Team who always appear within seconds after being called.
This is the utter fantasy world Brits are shown every night on their Telly. But as time passes and the street carnage builds it should dawn on more of them that, as is true everywhere, when seconds count the police are minutes away, and the only thing that can stand up to a bad man with a gun is a good man with the same. I'm not really expecting they will, Brits being such stubborn folk (What, replace that light bulb? Why that bulb has been in our family for generations!). But they damned well should.
The assailant was not wearing a hat. Repeat, the assailant was HATLESS. Be on the lookout!

Is that a real photo? A plastic bin, on wheels, like we use here in the U.S.? I’m thinking the cartoon-caliber chains and padlocks aren’t the weak link *cough* in that scheme to keep knives off the England streets. It’s more like an armory of sorts.
Never mind. Those slow plink-plink xylophone notes you might have just heard were my eyes blinking helplessly when I saw that it was a real photo from “The Bill.”
