No. Comments are always disabled on British newspaper sites on stories reporting on criminal acts (of any kind) before anybody’s been charged or tried. Contempt of court rules are tighter in the UK than the US.

For the umpteenth time, that's a misquote. What he actually said was 'vigilance about the risk of terrorism is part and parcel of living in a great city, and we must support the police in any way we can'. The misquote originated in the British Tory press (who hate Khan for political reasons rather than because he's a Muslim), and has been repeated unquestioningly so many times that he's permanently saddled with it.

I assume because (i) it was in front of the British House of Parliament and (ii) it used a similar modus operandi as prior terorrist attacks that hurt a lot more people.
