The Florida man who invoked the "stand your ground" self-defense after shooting a black man in a dispute over a parking space was charged Monday with manslaughter, officials said.
Michael Drejka, 47, was arrested Monday morning in the fatal shooting in July of Markeis McGlockton in Clearwater, Florida.

For the benefit of the thread I would like to point out that this topic/thread is about the charge of manslaughter rather than FL’s Self Defense law.
Now all the hitherto peripheral stuff such as Drejka’s prior issues, his intent, instigating, etc. is topical because the State has to prove manslaughter. Manslaughter is difficult to prove but a much more compelling proof than the absence of justifiable self-defense.
The fact the State is going with manslaughter means they believe they have the goods on him and can get it before a jury. They have to connect the dots showing he knowingly and willfully engaged in activity that would lead to the death of another.
Not an issue before today because no charges before today. The prior discussion was effectively whether or not FL’s self defense law was a good law, justifiable.
More importantly, a conviction for manslaughter should not weaken Floridians’ right of self-defense. It may actually set a standard for what is required to constitute manslaughter in a self defense shooting.
It’s not stand your ground when youyou shoot a retreating target.
Idiots like this give stand your ground a bad name.
what does the video have to do with knowing who was saying what and what people were looking at? you’re just spewing crap in the hopes people think you’re in the know and you’re not
A few Bernie Fifes on this forum, are day dreaming of the day they can seek justice against against someone, anyone, for any real or Imagined crime. Lunatics waiting for their moment of Glory.
The Barbazon School of Samuri has openings, Apply Now!
Heh... at least Barney was funny. These guys not so much... some type of Bizarro Barneys.
bump
I won’t be laid hands on. I don’t lay hands on others and I expect the same from them. Now why is that to much to ask?
Also I note that it is you that resort to vulgar and profane language in you post a clear sign of someone with an uncontrolled temper.
Don’t even know what that is, little d00d, but I sure do love living in your head.
So much room!
No, what I “have” are real world experiences where people have been hurt. Some bad enough to go the the emergency room. Hell, I was even one of them. A few of those that I have WITNESSED being hurt were hurt so severely that they could not return to work for days. My personal injury resulted in stitches and a severe concussion that prevented me from driving for a week and resulted in headaches for weeks.
Sorry, despite your very liberal glasses and arm chair quarterbacking what you have is nothing more than hindsight. It WAS a high threat situation because the shooter was ATTACKED and the shooter was on the ground, unable to retreat. It was not until the shooter was in this vulnerable position did the shooter even draw his weapon - with his attacker standing over him and still within striking range.
Just because you have not heard of something does not make it true. That is a logical fallacy called personal incredibility. Just because you have not done research into time and reaction, does not mean others haven’t.
Duration of a blink is about .1 to .4 of a second. https://bionumbers.hms.harvard.edu/bionumber.aspx?&id=100706&ver=0
Two blinks depending on age is between .25 and .5 seconds if done back to back. So my assertion is that it takes two blinks to be able to identify, recognize and react. Want proof, go to https://www.justpark.com/creative/reaction-time-test/ and see how long it takes you to react to the stop sign. Most people can, with practice, get their reaction time down to about .5 seconds. Half a second from the time you mentally see an action by your attacker and decide to shoot or don’t shoot.
or about two eye blinks
Excellent.
For the record, I'm pro-FLStandYourGround, and was happy when Zimmerman put down The Purple Drank Kid.
I'm anti-weird-invisible-boundaries-with-a-CCW guy.
Because he didn't go through the intersection and go home.
He pulled a u-turn into "his" parking lot because he saw an opportunity to "confront" someone over a handicapped space, in honor of his dead handicapped mother.
He's going to prison on manslaughter charges, and "the brothers" are going to sort him out in stir.
I myself would give Pistol Pete Drejka his piece, and a single round.
He could save everyone time and money, and save himself some agony in prison before he commits suicide there...
Well you are entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong it is. I stand by original assertion, if I were on the jury - not guilty.
Did you watch the video?
20 feet distance can be closed and an injury delivered before at person can draw a weapon.
Did he say you could ask questions about her?
And that is why he walks. The attacker appears to have backed up a half step but he could just have easily been in the processes of circling and continuing the attack from a different angle.
Police shootings are frequently exonerated based on the 21 foot rule. The fact the attacker did not have a weapon is irrelevant as he had already committed a serious potentially deadly violent assault. The attacker could have turned and ran the second he saw the gun but he did not. He was still capable of killing the guy on the ground very easily.
Outside of an ignorant jury this case is a slam dunk for the defense. I would even go as far as to say the charges may be dropped before this ever goes to trial.
This is being prosecuted for political reasons. The DA knows they have little chance of convicting this guy.
I said that they were going to have to charge him when this first happened.
There were a lot of freepers like you who said I was wrong...
Now that the State can drag in his previous confrontations and road-rage incidents - Drejka is going down.
Didn't you even bother to read the weird cr@p he was up to with his little portable manhood?
How he constantly lied to the cops and had an excuse handy for everything he was up to [muh handicapped Mother so Ima gonna kill yuh]?
He's NOT gonna walk - Drejka is going down. The prosecutor was quietly collecting his nasty little history of "confrontations" - and there will be more people coming forward...
