The budget is $6m-—but that’s production only. Add Prints & Advertising, marketing, you’re probably at $8m minimum.
The way movie revenues work is the theater chain takes 50% (minimum) of your film revenues.
DOAN has grossed $4.4m so far, so Dinesh has actually realized a return of about $2.2m vs. $8m outlay. And the $4.4m is estimated-—could be higher, could be lower.
Normally by the third weekend a film is almost done in the theaters. Note also that DD is only in a theater single screen for 2-3 shows a day, vs, say, “Meg” which will be on multiple screens for 5-6 shows a day. In other words, as of right now, it will be hard for him to break even, even with DVD sales, but still possible.
Don’t waste your money on seeing MEG. Saw it Friday night on the box, Jaws was way better. The best thing about MEG is the picture on the ad.
Thanks
