Aldi is a year into its five-year, $5.3 billion U.S. growth plan. The plan calls for building around 800 new stores, remodeling older locations and upgrading and expanding its assortment. By 2022, Aldi said it will be the third largest U.S. grocer by store count with 2,500 locations, behind Walmart and Kroger.
It's pretty simple," Aldi U.S. CEO Jason Hart told CNBC. "We are going where competitors are, we like to be close to the competition for convenience reasons for our customer. We like them to shop exclusively Aldi, but we recognize that consumers are going to more than one store."

Aldi is a German owned company.
They sell mostly canned food (think Spam).
They cater to the welfare crowd.
See my post 20 - that’s a different Aldi.
Well I don’t know what Aldies you got there but the one here is great.....I checked out the quality of their brand and others and I got to say there’s a lot I prefer over name brands......and I never got anything stale, quite the opposite. And there produce is great compared to the local grocery.
I shop both the local and Aldies.....will continue to do so.
They have some selective items that are quite good. I love their hotdog rolls (dont recall the bakery), but they are great.
I like them too.....save alot and the food quality is equal or surpasses our local grocery. I was stunned by the produce as their packaged corn on the cob was as sweet as you’d get road side.......really surprising.
I’ve yet to have a disappointment...in fact often surprised how good their Brand is.
Fry's (Kroger) sells t-bones, New York strip, and sometimes rib eyes that cheap on sale, and the quality is good.
No they don’t cater to the welfare crowd.....at least not here in my city....I don’t know what your store is there but here it’s well organized, very clean and the food is fresh and appealing....and far more than just canned by a long shot. The fresh produce is what drew me there as people were saying how great it was.
There bread is outstanding and great selection, always fresh too. I just find it hard to understand why some complain on the thread unless they’re shopping an older store. Ours is great.
There has been an Aldis store here where I live for the last 45yrs. Very popular store.
It’s not crap! Aldis saves you money by having their own brands and low overhead. There are no cart pushers, for example. Obviously you never shopped there.
A family member here was going there.....I kept asking where they got this and that as the taste etc. was so good. She kept saying Aldies so I finally went there myself with, I admit, some hesitation.
I started with just a few items and graduated over time to where I shop there first then onto my local store. Plus it’s fun trying items they offer you can’t get elsewhere.
Love their spices and selcetions of baking products too....well you can see I’m sold.
I get chia seeds from there, no complaints.
The Aldi stores in Germany are somewhat different (in a better way).
They also have bags for pennies if you don’t have your own...I just bought some cloth and heavy gauge bags at a discount house and they work fine.
I was surprised at their dairy products being as good as they are. Coffee creamer, butter, etc. saves a whole lot and I go thru both pretty quick.
Costco and aldi are pretty even for value, according to Clark Howard’s website. Of course, Costco has a bigger selection of other stuff. Closest one is fifty miles from us, so we don’t shop there.
Aldi, which first came to stateside with a store in Iowa in
1976, currently has 1,600 stores in 35 states.
It isnt our main grocery to shop, but they have the lowest prices on staples we frequently buy.
I have no idea how Publix continues to stay in business with their outrageously high prices. The only items I ever buy in that store are the BOGOs. I love Aldi. Nothing is stale, their produce comes from the same farm as Publix for half the price (eg. Romaine hearts, $1.99 at Aldi, close to $4.00 at Publix. Same 3-pack, same supplier. Thats just one example) and Aldis store brand is excellent, much better than Publix, IMO.
Owned by Aldi’s. Live with it.
Regardless ... Trade Joe’s is great to shop at. Aldi’s is a disgrace!
