From NOAA: A rebuilding plan was implemented in 2010 with the goal of rebuilding the South Atlantic red snapper stock by 2044. It allows for limited harvest of red snapper as the population continues to grow.

I have no other source of info, but that seems like a good strategy.

It was a good goal. It worked just fine and should have reopened the fishery years ago!! Today Fla. Panhandle fishermen are only allowed to catch true red snapper in very rare cases.Reasons given make no sense whatsoever.

Red snapper are so plentiful everywhere they are found up there they have become a nuisance fish.

When regulators are asked why the fishery is not reopened they say: "the fish are not found everywhere." Problem is: the fish only live in a few areas they will never be found everywhere.

We have the worst libs in the history of fishery regulation doing the regulating in the Gulf fishery. They need to be replaced.
