A mixed bag. I have been freelancing for a long time. One time I started a specialty magazine with another fellow. He disappeared and I never got a dime. Another time I agreed to write for another magazine and that deal worked for several years. I sell several products as a 1099 employee and that has worked for several years. I have worked in aviation as a 1099 and that lasted 35 years. The major point is that you give-up security when you gain independence. Good luck.

p.s. Watch out for taxes. The IRS is ferocious and will try to eat you whole.

Thx for those tips.

I have been an independent contractor for years (working mostly in real estate appraisal and analysis).

My employer was my brother's small real estate appraisal and consulting firm, but I had no security because he had no security.

I am used to no security.
