Walker was my early-on favorite in the 2016 race.
As you recall he dropped out rather early.
My read on that was he had been ordered to drop out by the GOP establishment, who had decided to clear the tracks for Jeb!
He apparently saluted and followed orders.
It is that as much as anything that will hurt him with the Trump voters. They don’t cotton to GOPe lackeys.

Walker’s other problem was that he spent like a drunken sailor from the beginning. Despite being flush with cash, his campaign ran out of gas because he ran out of money. The other aspect is that he was already governor. Using up all of his campaign cash from his gubernatorial campaign might doom his re-election effort. A bird in the hand ...
Besides, people who want to be president don’t listen to the naysayers. Rubio and Kasich hung on long after it was clear they would not get the nomination, because they wanted Trump to win. Which in their estimation meant they would get to try again in 2020, since Trump couldn’t possibly beat Hillary, whereas Cruz might.
