“... He graduated from St. Petersburg College with an associate degree in Florida...”

What does an associate degree in Florida do for you???

Do you go for a bachelors degree in Georgia???

The same thing a high school education used to get you. Community college is pretty much like 2 more years of high school anymore.

The wording was awful. I read it twice, having never heard of a degree in Florida.

My kiddo went to St. Petersburg College (it’s a Community College, and has morphed into a 4 year College as well.)

Look like he’s taking the route a lot of younger kids take (though not as young as him.) We have Dual Enrollment and if you can test into College level classes, then you are able to go to college class, tuition free, and earn credits that count as High School and College credits.
So you graduate High School with a diploma and at the same time have your A.A.degree (i.e. the first 2 years of general ed classes that are included in most college degrees.)

He’s going to University of South Florida, there’s a campus in St. Petersburg and in Tampa. The college in Tampa is like a city 50,000 kids on the sprawling campus. The campus is St. Pete is beautiful, on the Bay with a lovely water view...downtown St. Pete is quite the “happening” place these days, so college kids like it...no car needed. Finishing 2 more years at USF will give him a Bachelor’s...and this degree is also tuition free if you qualify for the merit scholarship given to Florida residents going to in state public colleges.

Our son added his Masters at University of Tampa (private school) but free
tuition because he was a Teaching Assistant. So he came through the
graduate program and had his degrees out of the way when he was 21, tuition free.

The kid in the article would finish his Graduate degree at 15 if he chooses the same route.
