Fifty years after the Battle of Hue, one of the bloodiest battles of the Vietnam War, a Marine is being recognized for his brave actions.
Retired Sgt. Maj. John Canley received a phone call from President Donald Trump earlier this month in his home in Oxnard, California. Trump told Canley that he was receiving the Medal of Honor for his work in early 1968.
The White House will be making an official announcement once the date for presenting the award is confirmed.
Canley has previously received the Navy Cross, two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart for his heroism.
In his Navy Cross citation, according to Stars and Stripes, Canley was a gunnery sergeant with 1st Battalion and 1st Marines who showed “extraordinary leadership and selflessness during the Battle of Hue.”
During the battle, his commander was seriously wounded, and Canley stepped up and helped lead his fellow Marines. During a week-long siege, Canley led his men to successfully neutralize enemy combatants and brought Marines who were injured to safety, while he himself had several shrapnel injuries.

I would also like to see the same thing happen for Sgt Rafael Peralta. I have a hard time accepting that the eyewitness accounts of the marines he saved could be overruled by some stateside pecker-checkers.

Good Grief....I remember my Dad telling me about, when he was fighting in the Korean War, they would pull the guys off the line for some rest. The Red Cross, as you said, had coffee and doughnuts and they would charge the guys. A little ways down the Salvation Army GAVE THE GUYS COFFEE AND DOUGHNUTS FOR FREE. That is why I DO NOT GIVE THE RED CROSS. There CEO has a salary of $1,030.022, and only .08 cents goes to the people who need it. Whereas the Salvation Army CEO has a salary of $13,000.00 and .98 cents of every dollar goes to the people who need it. I will always give to the Salvation Army.

How many Medal of Honor is a president allowed to award?
Them hippies are now well entrenched into our government.. I think nowadays they're call the swamp.... :)
The only limit of how many Medals of Honor a president may “present” to military personnel is limited only by the number of recommendations for the MOH that are made through each military service’s channels to the United States Congress.
Congress then votes on whether or not the soldier, sailor, airman, or marine that has been recommended to receive the award for their actions in combat. If Congress votes to award the MOH, then the president “presents” it to the recipient in the name of Congress.

It’s an upgrade from the Navy Cross that he received for the same actions. The Navy Cross is second highest award someone can be awarded for valor, above and beyond the call of duty,

Amen. Every day I find more reasons to love this man. He truly respects our military and loves America. He didn’t need to do this. The man is a multi-billionaire. He could have spent the rest of his life in luxury and comfort few in the world can enjoy. He choose to save this nation and he deserves our support.
Hue was one of most intense and savage battles The US Marines ever fought.

I had forgotten that, yeah it made an impression on me too.
Once had a former Marine tell me the USMC had perfected the art of maintaining discipline while keeping every Marine on the razors edge of pissed off.
A cousin spent 30 years as a Marine.
He said every recruit dreaded the thought of being the one who let down the Legacy of the Corps.
I imagine they’re both right.
