Lots of room for operator error in very bad conditions. If the boat is sound that points to a mistake by driver. My method is nose to the wind with enough power to keep it there and try to ride it out. If I can get to a sheltered area fine. Never tried to run for it. So far it has worked but I ain’t discounting luck and the all mighty. I’ve also never had 30 other people on board.

I’m thinking operator error.

These vehicles are inspected by DOT (Federal Motor Carrier Safety) and Coast Guard (Vessel Safety Check) on an annual basis. The individual states may require additional inspections, but most will follow the two standards above.
