GARDEN CITY, Ind. (AP) -- Vice President Mike Pence turns nostalgic when he talks about growing up in small-town Columbus, Indiana, where his father helped build an empire of more than 200 gas stations that provided an upbringing on the "front row of the American dream."
The collapse of Kiel Bros. Oil Co. in 2004 was widely publicized. Less known is that the state of Indiana and, to a smaller extent, Kentucky and Illinois are still on the hook for millions of dollars to clean up more than 85 contaminated sites across the three states, including underground tanks that leaked toxic chemicals into soil, streams and wells.

I did find it on Fox, too.
Gosh, they really have to reach to smear Pence, dont they?
Gotta love another attack piece.
Never mind the fact that the EPA rules were changed in the late 90s forcing many of these gas stations into bankruptcy because they couldn’t upgrade to the newer tanks. So they all languished and rotted.
So did the “media” also calculate the total taxes that the Pence companies PAID over its lifetime?
For some reason, I think not.
Chuck Schumer never held a job in the private sector.
New headline: The EPA forced the Pence family business into bankruptcy.
So instead of running the family business, Mike Pence went into politics. The LEFT put Mike Pence on the road to the White House.
“Gosh, they really have to reach to smear Pence, dont they?”
Is the information true, or not?
If true, it’s not a smear.
Did the Pence Family manufacture the underground Gas Tanks?
From pushback.com: "You must remember the massive fraud on the public that was recently disclosed when the State Senate finally ordered a scientific review of the so-called leaking underground fuel tank threat by University of California scientists. The activities of ...the State Water Quality Control Board (SWQCB), have guaranteed that the big oil companies would have a monopoly in California and that prices would soar because it, SWQCB, systematically wiped outbankruptedmost of the small service stations in California by claiming that leaking underground fuel tanks were contaminating our water supplies.... However, scientists at the University of California in a published report recently confirmed that not even one percent of this purported threat to ground water ever existed. Our Legislature waited twelve years to learn the truth. By that time, several billion dollars had been wasted, thousands of small businesses and service stations bankrupted, and over a hundred fifty thousand jobs wiped out for the wage-earners who found employment businesses."
You have nothing better to do, you yahoos? What is it? you gathering dirt for when Pence runs?
Nobody used double tanks back then.
Gas station site cleanups are pretty much routine everywhere.
Yes this is one of the most costly scams perpetrated by the EPA on an unsuspecting public.
He could call this “old news”. Worked for the Clintons.
Pence family’s failed gas stations cost taxpayers $20M+ (leftist Yahoo News
Oh, the horror, oh, the angst, oh, the tragedy. Stupid, moron libs spill more than that on the bar...every day. Pure BS news, as usual from libs.
Oh...and how many jobs did 200 stations provide while they were operating? How much to the economy did they contribute? No mention of that, of course.
Was Pence himself, responsible for it? No? Then it is a smear against him.
Is the information true, or not? If true, its not a smear.”
as usual with such fake news, it’s partially true, but with the rest of the story left out ... there are tens of thousands of these abandoned, rusting steel underground gas station tanks all over the country, most of which are so old that everyone has forgotten where they are, and they are only discovered when someone digs to build a new building.
until fiberglass tanks went into use in the last couple of decades every gas station in the country used steel tanks, almost all of them underground ...
furthermore, based on my understanding of the relatively recent EPA rules about abandoned underground tanks, and the several situations that I’ve personally known about with friends with businesses who’ve discovered these things on their property, or property they just bought, is that the responsibility for mitigation solely, and in perpetuity, belongs to whomever currently owns the property with the abounded tanks ...
thus:
A. Pence’s family is being singled out in a seriously biased fashion for a common situation that affects tens of thousands of people through no fault of their own, and
B. I don’t know why the state’s are supposedly on the hook for cleanups: all my friends and acquaintances had to bare the financial burdens of cleanup all by themselves.
In other words, this is a typical leftist fake stream media hit piece ...
If the AP really wanted to pin anything on the Republicans, they’d do their homework on tetraethyl lead and Coolidge’s Surgeon General, Hugh Cumming.
Perhaps we should also look at a political motivation behind Truman’s Oscar Ewing and the expansion of fluoridation in the US.
Nah. Let’s ignore all the democrat gas stations taxpayers have subsidized for their environmental messes, too. /s
Such a dishonest political story, but no surprise here.
Also you couldn’t find a gas station for miles and miles.
Nor did Bernie Sanders.
