Fought all of this in high school for many years. Administrations sided with parents and threw me out. I fought tooth and nail exactly what you have written about. The schools are SO political that no will exists to instill appropriate discipline and training in self-control. Whoever tries ends up unemployed.
The original purpose of HS was to produce trained worers. Hence the semi industrial environment with movement controlled by bells and distant unfriedly teachers.
I attended Osborn High School, on the east side of Detroit from 1974-1976 with many people that I went from kindergarten all the way to high school with. After my junior year, I moved with my mom and sister to northern Michigan, to the small town of Charlevoix. Talk about culture-shock! I went from Detroit high school racial unrest to a school with a graduating class of 146 in 1977.
