That was a big point of the sequel to Trainspotting. I don’t even know if it was the point, but it was shocking to see how the country had changed in the twenty years between films. The first was kind of an indictment of the Scottish welfare system, and everyone was Scottish. In the second one, it seemed like almost everyone he encountered was Indian, Eastern European, anything but Scottish.

When my friend returned to Scotland she said there was hardly a place you could go without seeing the black burka....she was truly upset ‘her Scotland’ was gone.
