Excalibur - that was the expensive brand that made me think dehydrators were expensive.
i’m wondering if i would use it enough. but i thought that about the food saver and i love that thing. perhaps i ‘need’ one (vs want)

One other thing: you can build your own dehydrator with a fan, air conditioner filters and some other stuff. I think Alton Brown posted directions on either his website or the Food Network site.
