Deadline ^

Posted on 07/02/2018 12:31:44 PM PDT by TigerClaws

Paramount Network has slotted July 30 at 10 PM for the premiere of Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story. The network also unveiled the full trailer for the six-part original docuseries, which recounts the life and legacy of Trayvon Martin, whose 2012 shooting death polarized the nation and gave rise to the #BlackLivesMatter movement.

Trayvon Martin was an unarmed 17-year-old African American high school student shot and killed by a neighborhood watch member in the Sanford, Florida community on February 26, 2012 where he was visiting a friend with his father. George Zimmerman was acquitted of a second-degree murder charge utilizing Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law, claiming he shot Martin in self-defense.

The fatal encounter between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman and the subsequent trial sparked nationwide outrage and protests and shined an unforgiving light on issues including race, politics, power, money and, gun control.

Interviews combined with home videos, family photos, and news footage provide an intimate look at the story of a young life tragically cut short and that spurred a movement giving rise to a rallying cry that still resonates today, #BlackLivesMatter.

Featured in the docuseries are Trayvon Martin’s parents Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin; Martin family lawyer Donald Crump, Angela Rye, Reverend Al Sharpton, Angela Davis and Carmelo Anthony, among others.

Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story also addresses the significant cultural and societal issues surrounding the tragedy as well as an in-depth examination into the investigation, trial, and the not-guilty verdict.

They’ll portray a redneck-like Zimmermann as sucker punching Martin and pounding his head into the pavement.

“”Angela Davis””

I don’t get the channel or whatever it will be shown on but it would be worth catching a glimpse of the old sixties radical/terrorist and what she looks like today. She was never anything to look at anyway but this many years later ought to be a hoot! This person was sent to prison and later became a college professor. It’s a reward that is given to all anti American activists. Just ask Bill Ayres and his wife. Stunning!

Was it the murder of 8 year old Trayvon that inspired the Ferguson looting, er, I mean riots.

For those who hadn’t joined FR yet, we had a good number of DU trolls and Soros useful idiots here on FR defending St. Trayvon and bashing George Zimmerman. Most of these trolls insisted that Trayvon pounding George’s head into the concrete was not life threatening.

It was a righteous and legal self-defense kill by Zimmerman.

I do not watch many tv trials, but i did this one. The prosecution didn’t even move it up to reasonable doubt. They had no evidence at all and the defense barely had to work.

So why can Zimmerman be afraid for his life and Trayvon can’t?

Zimmerman had already broken off pursuing Trayvon and was returning to his car. Trayvon made it home and then went back out to confront and then attack Zimmerman, you utter moron. Have you read a single thing multiple posters have said to you on this thread?

Why are you ignoring answers you've already gotten?

"So why can Zimmerman be afraid for his life and Trayvon can’t?"

It does not matter if Trayvon was afraid of something. As has already been pointed out, the record shows he went home but did not go inside. Instead he waited and went back to attack Zimmerman. He wasn't afraid. But it doesn't matter.

Being afraid of someone following you, even if Trayvon were afraid, is not a license to murder. You can only use deadly force in response to deadly force.

Checking to see where a suspicious person went, even following someone, does not carry a death penalty. Trayvon was not allowed to use deadly force against Zimmerman by bashing his head into the concrete. But by doing so he created a situation where Zimmerman was within his legal and moral right to use deadly force to save his own life. Those are the facts. You are repeating uninformed and irrational propaganda.

I’m not ignoring everything!

I did think he was 14, I posted that I stand corrected on his age.

Why did Zimmerman have a right to follow Trayvon, but Trayvon is not afforded the same?

Why did Zimmerman have a right of self-defense that you are unwilling to give to Trayvon?

Zimmerman got out of the truck to follow Trayvon: ok with you.
Trayvon comes out of the house to confront the weird guy following him: not ok with you.

Gawd, you are a world-class idiot.

Zimmerman did not assault Trayvon, you moron. Zimmerman posed no danger to Trayvon when Trayvon assaulted Zimmerman, Zimmerman was walking away. Gawd, you are too stupid to be a conservative with this mindset. If you cannot figure out the difference, please, do us a favor. Get the flock off this website. The rest of us are smart enough not to fall for the typical liberal narrative.

OK, I'll keep this simple. Who followed, and who later initiated assault after not being followed any longer.

Extra credit - do you think sucker-punching someone and bashing their head against the pavement is considered a potentially deadly assault?

I really hope you do not have a concealed carry permit, as you have no concept of a rational response to attempted deadly force. And I think you are the only FReeper I have ever said that to.

I’m not going anywhere. Get over it.

Why can’t you just discuss the issue without being an *sshole?

Same goes for you, try discussing it without being a jerk.

All things being equal is not what I see.

You are willing to grant Zimmerman rights you are not willing to grant Trayvon.

I’m not saying either of them were without fault.

I don’t mind taking that position.

"I’m not ignoring everything!"

Right. You acknowledged getting his age wrong. The rest of the stuff has been answered and you ignore the answers. Why?

Let's go over this again.

"Why did Zimmerman have a right to follow Trayvon, but Trayvon is not afforded the same?"

Meaningless question. Trayvon's right to follow isn't in dispute. His right to kill someone is.

"Why did Zimmerman have a right of self-defense that you are unwilling to give to Trayvon?"

Another meaningless question. Everyone has a right to self-defense. But only Trayvon attacked someone, so only Zimmerman's right to defend himself has any bearing.

"Zimmerman got out of the truck to follow Trayvon: ok with you."

You can dispute the propriety or wisdom of doing so, but so what? Does getting out of the truck mean Trayvon had the right to kill him? Answer the question.

"Trayvon comes out of the house to confront the weird guy following him: not ok with you."

Again, you could dispute the wisdom of confronting him, and if that's all Trayvon did we wouldn't be talking about this. But Trayvon tried to kill Zimmerman. Why do you keep avoiding that fact?

This is the thing. You avoid the things the interfere with your narrative, and mix up grossly different actions as if they were the same thing. Following someone is not beating their head in. Getting out of your truck is not attempted murder. Deal with the actual facts.

Why can’t you discuss the issues without being an idiot? You are equating Zimmerman following Trayvon with no use of force to Trayvon assaulting Zimmerman with deadly force after Zimmerman had quit following Trayvon. If you cannot discern the difference in those scenarios, I am sorry. You are a dumb liberal at heart, not a conservative. And you should be friggiin’ ashamed of yourself. This website is a leader in promoting the legal right to self-defense within rational criteria. And you are not being rational, which makes you posts an insult to this site.

Well said. But I don’t expect it to soak in. Willful ignorance is not curable in my experience. All you can do is show others how the poster in question is being a rank idiot.
