No one said it was. It is the governor's decision and he can appoint anyone he wants. There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents appointing the wife to a seat. It does not change the nature of the republic and I assume you know it is temporary until the 2020 election in which the voters of AZ will choose someone for the remainder two years of his term.

My gosh this place is no different than the snowflakes over on the other side. Get a grip.

A total of 47 wives have “assumed” their husband’s seat in Congress. Eight of those in the Senate. And the state governor’s play along for payback. Don’t be so naive. You think Blagovitch was the only one? He was only stupid enough to get caught. Read the article. “Widow’s mandate” my eye. My assertions were entirely correct.
