The ambassador appeared to be referring to Trump's comments at the recent G7 meetings in Quebec, when he talked about trade imbalances and warned the U.S. will no longer be the "piggy bank that everybody's robbing." Trump also said "NATO is as bad as NAFTA" in terms of how much it costs the U.S.

So how is that incorrect? The purpose of NATO was to keep tbe Soviet Union out of Western Europe. The Soviet Union dissolved 27 years ago and we have pushed NATO east to the Russian border, while at the same time very few NATO members spend the required 2% of their GDPs on defense (Estonia actually does).

NATO burden sharing has been a topic that’s been around since the 1960’s. Decades of endless rhetoric, promises, and posturing. Talk produced nothing, as usual.

Trump is finally doing something about it.
