Seattle cops flee the force in 'mass exodus' due to frustrations with city's politics
FOX NEWS ^ | June 29, 2018 | Kathleen Joyce

At least 41 cops have left the Seattle Police Department this year, many of them reportedly citing frustration with the city's politics and a perceived lack of support from local officials.

Though documents showed some officers left the force due to retirement, a source in the department told Q13 FOX some 20 officers left and sought employment at other law enforcement agencies.

The source also said younger officers "don’t feel appreciated" and the number of those leaving who felt “frustrated over city politics is higher than usual.”

“Worker bees on the street, they don't feel appreciated. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” the source told Q13 FOX.

The Seattle Police Guild, the police labor union, which includes “all of the officers and sergeants on the Seattle Police Department,” according to its website, called the departures a “mass exodus” that would affect safety.

“Less officers on the streets, less safe for the citizens -- and when you have all these officers you have invested all this money in and they are leaving for Tacoma, Olympia, Pierce County and Snohomish County,” Seattle Police Officers Guild Vice President Richard O’Neill said.

He added: “I have never seen the number of officers who are leaving and the way they are leaving.”

As of 2017, there were 1,444 sworn officers on the force, according to the city.

“It's just depressing to serve in a place where many city council members who are coming out at times with negative comments about the police,” O’Neill said.

The union cited Mike O’Brien and Kshama Sawant, two Seattle City Council members, as being especially critical.

"A city council member [Sawant] can call two police officers 'murderers' and the city pays for her legal fees," a source told MyNorthwest.com, referring to a fatal 2016 police-involved shooting.

I hope that you know I was kidding! McAllen is near the southern border, I’m making an apparently very lame joke about Texas’ border 😉 with 🇲🇽 Me-hee-co.

When the political class finally whips the mob into an uncontrollable frenzy and they explode due to political rabble rousing and begin burning down the city the cops are going to be told to stand down initially and when the political class finally realizes they can’t stop the mob then they will beg the cops to save them and their crap infested city. It will be interesting to see if the cops stand down or wade into the politically created hate and violence.

No,I thought that you were serious.

If North Texas is looking for police hires I know a young man that may be interested.

Sure,I could look at a map,but I thought that there may be specific towns/counties that are hiring.

Yikes. Is that supposed to be a dude or some sort of lesbian thing? I honestly can’t tell if that’s a man or a woman.

“And, the people of Washington are fleeing as well”

No. This is a Seattle problem, not a Washington State problem.

It does make you wonder why the city councils can’t see what they are creating. When the situation develops to what you describe, the cops will be busy protecting themselves and their families.

Applies to any dim run city.

***North Texas is hiring officers by the truckloads, come on up.***

Why would want to work in place where the expect you to ride in a back of a truck?

They will probably replace the fleeing cops with well trained community organizers. Then all will be right.

When the locals demand to rename Seattle to Mogadishu maybe they’ll reconsider their actions.

MrT5 left Seattle for good when he joined the military-he had family both there and in Quebec-we visited his family in both places every few years-I’m sure you can guess which side of the US-Canada border we spent more time on as Seattle became more expensive and visitor-unfriendly-but the last time we were there-about 11 years ago-both Snohomish and the county by that name were still very nice places without a lot of crime, crap and bums wandering around-totally unlike the sewer that Seattle was becoming-I hope it is still like that today...

America’s cities have modern centers that are bordered by liberal demographic rot. Every American city is a third world liberal sh*thole. It is quite stunning.

“Every American city is a third world liberal sh*thole”-you are so right about that-it is the case with almost every major city in this state as well-the nearest major city-SA- is about 50 miles from this rural area-most of us out here don’t go there except to visit-if someone is injured at work or at home, the nearest hospital is in Kerrville, about 35 miles away, and maybe 20,000 people there. There is a grocery store that sells organic produce and free range/grass fed meat 18 miles away, and another one 23 miles in the opposite direction-anything not there can be bought online, or right here-we have plenty of local one-owner businesses to take care of everything from your 4x4’s oil change to mowing/trimming on your property, buying/bartering fresh eggs, butter and honey. Buying stuff online or from a neighbor’s business beats fighting crowds, too...

My guy lives in the city-spending time at his place is the only time I go there-if he would come to live out here, I wouldn’t go there at all-the noise and light pollution keep me awake whenever I’m there-even with the blinds/drapes shut tight, and the bars on the windows of his house in a gated neighborhood feel like I’m in prison. Granted, I’m country born and bred, and have only lived in cities when I had to for school, work, etc (even then I chose to live in the farthest surburb I could afford to commute from)-I don’t think living in a beehive like that, constantly exposed to the noise and exhaust smell of traffic, sirens up and down the street all night, not being able to see the stars because it is never really dark, etc is a healthy thing for humans-we are not bees, ants, termites, etc-maybe it is why there is so much more liberal insanity, crime and chaos in cities...

Worse than some.
Better’n most.

I woke up looking down at the grass, so I’m still playin’ with house money.

Just came in to take a break from mowing. Very hot and humid, but the weekend is supposed to be worse. It has been so wet here, this is the first time it has been dry enough for me to mow in three weeks. The grass is outta control. lol
