It isn't going to happen. And the reason it isn't going to happen is that the "resist we much" approach to politics adopted so enthusiastically by the Democrat rank and file leaves them no political capital with which to influence these matters. You have to have something to trade in politics - we don't like Candidate A, so we'll support Candidate B if you nominate him/her instead, and we'll throw in support for policy C to sweeten the pot - that sort of horse trading is the lifeblood of politics. Reflexively obstructing every least proposal takes that out of the running - no ante, no game. It's the reason childish obstructionism is relatively rare, (but not lately); you can't both run the machine and throw sand in the gears. It's one or the other.
Teddy Kennedy knew this full well and was very, very good at it. Teddy Kennedy is dead. And anyone stupid enough to try to strike a deal with the likes of Chuck Schumer deserves what he gets.
