I don’t understand why it was handled so poorly. It’s so basic to have each child wear a wristband (like every hospital patient) with their name & parent’s contact info.. How could they not have done this?

If you have limited resources and a border intentionally designed to encourage massive numbers to illegally cross, including children, at a certain point the system is going to break.
You are talking like you can just tell all of them to get in line and proceed in an orderly fashion. If these illegal border crossers were cooperative and capable of following directions, they would have presented themselves at a border crossing checkpoint. Instead, they are trying to sneak across and evade detection.
Any system you put in place, they are going to try to game. If you use wristbands, they will forge them, or cut them off an put them on another person, or some other stupid act. These are people who are uncooperative and looking to somehow cheat their way in. If they do not figure out how for themselves, there are lots of Democrats and anti-American organizations with attorneys who will patiently walk them through the process of cheating, lying, and conning their way through the system. And these enemies of America are looking for any and every opportunity to create bad optics for the current administration.
If you implement wristbands, the news will do hours-long reports on how wristbands are dangerous choking hazards or how some immigrant supposedly used a wristband to commit suicide. They will show children with wristbands applied so tightly that it cut off their circulation or bruised a poor child’s wrist due to the child-abusing border agents. If you use indelible ink, they will run stories on how the ink causes cancer, and lawyers will file suit and liberal judges will award illegal immigrants millions. Then the liberals will spread word in south and central America that the land of opportunity and million-dollar lawsuits awaits.
There is absolutely NOTHING that our border agents or this administration can do that will not result in demonic shrieking from the left. NOTHING.
