I know black young men who used to be student assistants where I worked and are totally decent, good people. One was stopped for not using a turn signal while driving but he knows he ALWAYS uses the signal. He bit his tongue as the cop played big shot. He got out of a bad situation by shutting up.
Another pointed toward three male black students talking casually outside the library window.
“That’s a rarity,” he said. “Three black students together and the campus cop just walked past and didn’t demand their IDs.” I said “Really?” He said “Yes, I’ve been questioned 2 or 3 times for nothing when talking with friends.” He was an honor student and wore a dress shirt and tie to work and got his degree in marketing. Good thing he never ran with his back to a cop.
