I spent much of my career about 40 feet down the hall from my firm's trading floor. This "fluctuation" looks like an emotional reaction to me (i.e. it's not based on any apparent fundamentals...just a reaction to the uncertainly created by Trump's negotiating style).

You could be correct. And time will tell whether such Trump’s erratic behavior creates lasting damage.

But for the time being, I think the most useful explanation is simply that the market was looking for an excuse to make a correction.
