For optimal UHF reception, connect your twin lead antenna wire to your toaster, attempt to straighten a coathanger, close is OK, and attach vertically to the toaster heating element.

Works every time.

VHF stands for very high frequency, and refers to channels 2-13. UHF stands for ultra high frequency, and refers to channels 14-83. UHF channels tended to be not affiliated with the three major networks , and tended to show reruns and old movies.

The TV sets on the ‘50s often didn’t receive UHF channels. So part of the joke about UHF channels is that they didn’t have nearly as big a potential audience, because many TV sets didn’t receive UHF signals.
