Typical for one of these "buy backs". A tiny percentage of genuinely interesting and collectible guns, 20% - 30% utilitarian but functional firearms, and a bunch of junk.
To: Simon Green
these buybacks are silly as all getout
in my humble opinion
not a proper governmental function or expense, and silly silly silly..do no good

Great way for a perp to dump a firearm used to kill someone.
Crips, Bloods and MS-13 look forward to these every time! Eliminate evidence for $$$!! What could be better?

Dolts.

ED: We have no idea why Evanston would make that a requirement]As with voting, that requirement is to discourage Black people from participating.
Or some such.

Agree completely.
Most of those guns are junk not even worth $30. It does almost break my heart to see a few really nice guns destroyed for political correctness.
I know a few states have made these so called buybacks, illegal.

I’ve read that some gun enthusiasts park near these events and try to buy anything that’s decent from the people looking to hand in their weapons for whatever sum the cops are looking to pay. Is this just an urban legend?

I was at a gun collector's show, and was thinking of the prices I saw there. They started at $800 to $900, with the sky being the limit for the really nice ones.
Then again, this was a collector's show, not a run of the mill gun show.

I like the M1 carbine even if it is much maligned as anemic.
I think it is a great close quarter gun and capable of dropping a deer at 100 yards.
