When there is a majority govt. the party in power can choose anytime to call an election up to a maximum of 5 years. Usually the 4th year is the traditional time. The last federal election was Oct. 19 2015 so technically Oct 15 2020 would be the last date a federal election can be held. Expect a decision for an election in 2019 however.

Since May 2007, the Canada Elections Act provides for a general election to be held on a fixed date:
the third Monday of October in the fourth calendar year following the previous general election.

As the last election took place on October 19, 2015, the next fixed election date is October 21, 2019.

2019. Trudeau scores points anytime he attacks the POTUS, so this is all coming at a bad time. Hopefully Canadians remember what a douche Trudeau really is on time.
