Also, I heard someone (had to be on FOX) a while back talking about why Singapore would be a good location for talks. Kim’s planes are not able to fly long distances due to age/state of repair issues - they thought Kim’s planes would be able to make it as far as Singapore. Looks like the Chinese helped him out as well with some decent aircraft so he wouldn’t come limping in. Kim’s plane was described in the article .....
“Maybe the most interesting part of this whole airlift is that Kim’s aging, VIP configured Il-62M also made the flight. It was the last in line to arrive in Singapore .... “

The negotiations are about the future of the Korean peninsula, not relations with China
So the Chinese flew Kim to the summit in an American plane? Two messages there.
First - Direct message to the Americans - Trump arrives in a 747 so Kim will arrive in a 747 to show he is equal in the negotiations.
Second - Subtext to Kim - the Americans are two generations ahead. If you want to catch up, you need to deal.
That’s a pretty cool staircase for a plane.

Recently, even the Chinese airlines seem not to be overflying Kamchatka as they used to. They take a more southerly route - not the most fuel efficient Great Circle route but directly over the North Pacific about 1,000 miles south of Anchorage and then overfly Japan to the coast of China. AF1 should be able to do the same - with a stop in Tokyo to refuel then straight on to Singapore skirting around Chinese airspace (just like in the old days), so there must be something else going on.
