I see the same thing. I understand all the reasons to legalize it. But its certainly not something to celebrate. There are going to be real human consequences, which we know, because I see it already. With the advent of “medical” marijuana it just ramped up and invaded families it would not have touched before.
You can’t build a republic with potheads as your citizenry. Kids who start down this road, if they don’t snap out of it, are as you say, lost souls. They lose their spark; they never quite get off dead-center. This is what I see all around me.
No good will come from legalizing pot but it seems unstoppable at this point. Maybe a lot of rats and snowflakes will be stoned and forget to vote.
Prohibition has had worse human consequences - which is why we should applaud its end (while reflecting that perfection is not to be had this side of Heaven).
“There are going to be real human consequences”
Is there anyone in America today that wants to smoke pot, but does not because of the law or availability?
“You cant build a republic with potheads as your citizenry.”
You could make the same argument about alcoholics. I don’t think booze has destroyed this country. It’s certainly wrecked lives, but not to the extent where its destroying the republic.
Not everyone is an instant addict when they consume a drug. Yes, some will abuse the drug. However, I think removing the criminal stigma associated with marijuana will be better for the country in the long run. Jailing people over this drug is nonsense and a waste of money.
Anyone who thinks it's no big deal should spend some time cruising the highlights of inner city Seattle.
