Why are we taxing them in their independent lands anyway?!

1. They are not independent lands.

2. Because the Congress, which explicitly has both the power to tax, and the authority to govern relations with the Indian tribes, said so.

Now whether this law is wise, that is another matter.

Seems they are not being taxed on “their” land value.

They live here and use the highways, utilities, SSA, Medicare, etc., so why shouldn’t they pay income taxes that help to provide those types of things?

By federal law, income tax is specifically imposed on Indian gaming revenue. General welfare distributions by tribes from other sources are exempt from income taxation. Thus a split of profits to tribe members from sales of cheap cigs may be exempt from income tax, but profits from the casino are subject to income tax.

Their lands and citizens are not truly independent of the rest of the USA. These businesses masquerading as traditional tribes should not be receiving the benefits of being in the USA without paying taxes. It promotes a moocher mentality.
