Time for the millions of “discouraged” workers to come back into the labor force. And time for the disabled to do a “trial work period” if they are up to it.

MAGA!

The data also showed just 6.35 million workers categorized as unemployed, down from 6.59 million in March.

The key word is "categorized". The participation rate is still very low, which means there are a lot of people out there without work.

They are looking for excuses to bring in more H1B and H2B workers. We should resist that temptation.

Yes, but the people with the skills you need are not available, or are not interested in your opening. It is quite hard to find really suitable people for many jobs.

"There are now more job vacancies than unemployed workers "

Correction: There are now more job vacancies than the unemployed

Part of the reason for this is because in a normal recovery, people re-enter the job market. The ones who stopped looking for work and thus, were no longer considered “unemployed”, start looking again and temporarily drive up the unemployment rate. We need that. Right now, we still have historically low labor force participation. That is a problem. Some of that is Baby Boomers retiring but a lot of it is people being too comfortable living off of Welfare, Food Stamps, Obamacare, SSI disability, etc. Trump needs to start cutting those programs drastically — especially SSI disability and Food Stamps. They blew up under Obama.

I ain’t saying I don’t believe this, but WHERE are these jobs? I’m unemployed and looking in upstate NY, Orange County NY and Roanoke VA, and there’s not much if you’re not highly specialized.

Seriously, who here has seen on Regional Help Wanted or any other job search engine a plethora of unfilled jobs? I need to move somewhere.

there is a good segment of people that were not being counted in the unemployment numbers because of the length of time they were unemployed.....I would love to see if the long term unemployed numbers are going down. unfortunately I don’t think that we have ever kept track of those numbers.
