Check out this series of videos of the eruption and rescue work. This is no laughing matter for the poor folks affected, burned, and killed by this event. There is talk of two streams of lava, but in one place a number of bodies are scattered on the ground and my guess is they died from a pyroclastic flow (flujo plastico as they are saying in Spanish). Both you tube sites have very dramatic footage from a number of angles. Many rescue workers, others fleeing as hot clouds roll down.

Pyroclastic flows are a nasty business ... huge, fast, and lethal. Ask the residents of Pompeii. Most of them are still there (buried in ash).
