Lewiston is in the second congressional district, which covers 80% of Maine.
This district was carried by Trump by 10 points in November 2016, giving him one electoral vote for doing so.
It was a previous RAT governor, John Baldacci, elected in 2002 and again in 2006, who offered generous welfare payments and lured these Somalis to Maine from Georgia as a result.
Current term-limited governor, ultra conservative Paul LePage, elected in 2010 and again in 2014, has reigned in a lot of those welfare benefits, not just for Somalis but for everyone.
I’ve lived her for 26 years and I saw my first Somali last year, at a Sam’s Club in Bangor, Maine. The way he was dressed, he looked like he just beamed over from the Horn of Africa.
By the way, this thread is the first I’ve heard of this story.
These Somalis need to tread lightly....Maine has both Open Carry and Constitutional Carry.
