U.S. Marines in Afghanistan killed dozens of Taliban leaders last week using rocket artillery after tracking them to a meeting in volatile Helmand Province, according to the top American general in Afghanistan Wednesday.
U.S. Forces Afghanistan said more than 50 Taliban commanders, including the deputy Taliban shadow governor of Helmand was killed. Taliban leaders from six other provinces across Afghanistan were killed as well in the strike in the Musa Qala district of Helmand, according to the statement.
Twenty other Taliban leaders were killed in air strikes earlier this month by drones and Air Force A-10 Warthog jets based in neighboring Kandahar, which arrived earlier this year along with thousands of additional American troops.

Winning!
This sounds good, but how much money are we spending over there and what is our exit strategy? I don’t understand what we are trying to achieve at this point. I haven’t heard anyone explain how we are suppose to win this war. I can’t believe we let Bush and the neocons take us into these poorly planned wars without realistic expectations and an exit strategy.
The weapon came first.....then, the air-frame.
I had the pleasure of hearing that weapon fire, in Kandahar, when it flew a training run, when I worked as a civilian contractor there.
It’s considered one of the major reasons that the Russians gave up its mass tank assault plans into free Europe.
This led to a slow deterioration and subsequent end to the cold war along with other factors.
That's what I was thinking too. I read an article about a recent attack in Syria. Some Russian-backed forces were near one of our Marine outposts. 20 Marines. Several miles away were about 20 Army and Green Berets at more of a command post. (They were the first ones that saw the bad guys moving and getting together from their intel drones, etc.)
Anyway - a bunch of tanks, trucks and about 500 bad guys started moving towards the Marines. Soon after the bad guys attacked the 20 Army guys showed up. At the end of it 300 bad guys were dead and the others in retreat. No U.S. dead - maybe not any even injured.
While it started off with the Marines defending themselves with small-arms fire, it ended with artillery and air-strikes. I love the term “force multipliers”!
You are right about that. Yes, a deadly, superb weapon.
In this case ugly is beautiful.
I was wondering what the “missiles” were.
HA! near philly for a couple of days. Surprised they didn’t take over the field.
Warthogs warm my heart. Used to have them flying over home when my Marine was an infant. Saw the boots come home once in a while too. Always wave and neighbors probably thought I was nuts.
Don’t want to get into a few years ago, but the current Sec of Def smiled at this one (even if no one saw it). So did Marine dad of LCpl HD Hogan.
How neat is that!
Please thank your Marine for his service.
Yes. Haven’t heard this type of story in a while. Breath of fresh air.
And Damn scary, depending on your view. Lol
Ah yes, good point.
SEMPER FI
Get Some.
Made me laugh!
When it comes to sh!t like this I have a pretty EVIL CACKLE.
About as scary as they come.
:-)
He sure did. The A-10 Warthog I love the name of it. Ugly and extremely effective.
