Within the last 50 years?

There hasn't been slavery in this country for more than 150 years, but I still wouldn't ask employees to call me "massa".

But still, what about Maher?

What about him?

In 2013: “To determine whether he is in fact the love child of a human woman and an orangatan from the Brooklyn zoo,” Maher said. “Look, I’m not saying your mother was repeatedly ****ing an orangutan back in the 1940’s, I don’t know if that’s true I hope it’s not true. But given your face, your physique and your intelligence level and of course your hair, the American people deserve some real proof that your mother did not spend most nights in 1945 covering her body in banana oil sneaking into the monkey cage and compulsively humping an orange orangutan.”

So? How does Maher saying something offensive and asinine make it okay for Roseanne to do the same? This isn't something that is close to the line, or something that she should have been able to say and not expect a reaction. It was dumb as hell for her to say what she did, and anyone with half a brain could have predicted the reaction.

And if she had said the same about Clarence Thomas, would anyone of the Left care?

Probably not. Does that mean we shouldn't?

“How does Maher saying something offensive and asinine make it okay for Roseanne to do the same?”

It’s the hypocrisy. Roseanne must be utterly destroyed for what she said. Mahler is respected and applauded by the same people.

Me? I think accusing someone’s mother of covering herself in banana oil and having sex with monkeys is more offensive than saying someone looks like they’ve come from the set of Planet of the Apes. I don’t find the latter comment particularly offensive, nor do I see any connection with Africa or any association with blacks.

“There hasn’t been slavery in this country for more than 150 years, but I still wouldn’t ask employees to call me “massa”.”

Massa would indicate the employees - including whites as well - were thought of as slaves. I don’t associate the PotA movies with anyone being slaves - other than a white guy.

“Probably not. Does that mean we shouldn’t?”

If she had said the same thing about Clarence Thomas, would I care? Would Justice Thomas? Not really. Leftist say things about him like that all the time. Leftists say white guys like me should be murdered. I don’t worry about it.

Part of my point is that the “outrage” is extremely selective, and ONLY because the target is a leftist. The things I’ve said about John McCain on this forum are much worse, but no one cares. Certainly not McCain, whose staff has seen the emails I’ve sent him over the years.

I don’t like Roseanne. Never seen her show. Don’t want to. But she is being destroyed simply because she has said good things about Trump. We are in a culture war. The Left plays for keeps. Maybe we need to as well!
