John McCain’s shocking concession on the Iraq War: it was a “mistake”

Sen. John McCain in his new memoir makes the confession that the Iraq War was a "mistake" and says he shoulders part of the blame, Vox reported Friday.

He explained the Iraq War "can't be judged as anything other than a mistake, a very serious one, and I have to accept my share of the blame for it."

McCain was a steadfast supporter of the initiative to go to war with Iraq during the administration of former President George W. Bush.

"I came out of the Vietnam War convinced that frankly we could have won, and we had it won," Politico's Michael Hirsh said the Arizona Republican told him in 2014. "Just as I believed we had the Iraq conflict won after the surge — and for which I sacrificed everything, including my presidential ambitions, that it would succeed."

Even back in 2005, when 66 percent of the country was against the effort to bring democracy to Iraq, McCain doubled down on his support of the war.

And the Iraq invasion and 7 month occupation of Kuwait
was acceptable? Iraq was just miles from the Saudi border.
Their goal was to overtake the entire region and the oil market.
Seems McCain forgot all about history.

Saddam killed radical Muslims and he balanced out Iran so he had that going for him. But ultimately in 50 years, Iraq may be better off. Democracy is messy so far but they’re making progress.

John is right and Trump said the same long before that.

When will it be exposed that the whole WMD "intelligence" thing was another deep state/Bush lie to justify the 2nd invasion.

If Saddam would have assassinated GHW Bush he might have been doing us a favor.

'As far as Afghanistan goes, we should have paid the Russians as mercenaries to go in there to kill the taliban, and get bin Laden.'

We should have let Russia have Afghanistan from the very beginning.

Democracy isn’t suitable for everyone

Even with homogeneous advanced cultures it can still devour itself

In regressive tribal environment lacking Enlightenment traditions and Christianity it’s a real foolish endeavor

Better a reasonable strongman

We used to understand that

Saddam wasn’t reasonable though

That new Saudi prince is but where’d he go after the recent shits fired ?
