Trump Moves to Ease the Firing of Federal Workers
NY Times ^ | 05/25/2018 | Noam Scheiber

President Trump on Friday signed a series of executive orders making it easier to fire federal government workers and rolling back the prerogatives of unions that represent them.

Andrew Bremberg, the head of the White House Domestic Policy Council, said the president was “fulfilling his promise to promote more efficient government by reforming our Civil Service rules.”

But the push also reflects conservatives’ long-running suspicion of the federal bureaucracy, one that the president’s advisers have been outspoken in channeling. Shortly after Mr. Trump took office, Stephen K. Bannon, then his chief strategist, called for “the deconstruction of the administrative state.”

Unions representing government workers were quick to denounce the actions, calling them an “assault on democracy,” in the words of the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal employee union, which represents 700,000 workers.

How many seconds before some low level Federal judge blocks this? Surely by Tuesday afternoon.

Another commie journalist said that it would save $100 million. It will save far more than that, and the idea will propagate to wasteful state governments receiving enormous amounts of federal pork.

Greetings: I spent most of my working life as a government worker. First 8 years you may like, as I was in the army. Then worked 2 years on a federal ACTION grant, helping teens find volunteer positions. Than spent 2 years trying to help poor people get out of poverty at a community action agency. Did 10 hour days 6 days a week for $600 a month. Then spent 20 years administering a federal/state program helping people with disabilities prepare for and or find or train for employment. My last job got no government money. I directed a pro life crisis pregnancy center. Many of the above government jobs required unpaid overtime and no time to take the allowed vacation time. Each job demanded that one stack um high and tight as the funding was rather fugal and the help minimal.. My government final salary after 32 years with a master’s degree was $40,000.00 a year.(2008) I was the highest paid person at my office. Not all gov workers live in the lap of luxury. Not every one sits around doing nothing. It is not all the motor vehicle department.

Maybe not, but plenty of it is. I truly dread dealing with “public servants.” I can’t think of them without scare quotes.

Trump should recind JFK’s Executive Order 10988 which allows Federal employees to organize. This EO is the root cause of most of the problems within the various alphabet organizations in the federal government.

“Now fire the “public servants” at the ...local level as well.

That would require so-called “conservatives” to get off their fat, mammon-worshipping asses and attend local town council and county board meetings.

I’m a Federal employee. I agree with all these changes. My goal is to save the government enough money by the time I retire that it pays for my lifetime earnings within 3 years.

Using a lower evidentiary standard than “beyond a reasonable doubt”, or “a preponderance of evidence”, if a federal employee has been accused of improper use of their office by their agency IG, like Lois Lerner, once they have left that office by resignation or being fired, they will have a bar to future government employment, either directly or via a federal contractor, unless they successfully challenge the IG finding in federal court.

Or have the feds stop issuing the black grants that finance many of these local programs.

Exactly. I, too, misinterpreted the headline as you did. Freepers are a sharp and articulate bunch. We need to slow down when posting and re-read our posts a few times before posting. I am an admitted grammar nazi. In our zeal to post, sometimes we (including yours truly) get sloppy. In addition to the fine principles we support on this site everyday, our comments should be expressed with perfect grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax.

Note that NEITHER party, no Democrat nor Republican, in both House, Senate nor Judiciary cancelled union power in Government. No Government Pol shrank the deep State.

And every job task you listed would have been done faster with much better quality by private means. It is an insult to your ‘customers’ that their money was taken to provide inferior service, and then forced to pay lavish retirement for others.

” Or have the feds stop issuing the black grants that finance many of these local programs”

Block grants that harm the community can be rejected by a sufficient number of “conservatives” showing up at town council meetings. But that would require prying them away from their barbecues, TV football and kitchen remodeling. After all, taking an hour a month to attend a common council would take time away from worshipping Mammon.

I’d like to see some law changes to back up these executive orders. I’d hate to see a future Dem president easily undo all these changes.

Technology gets involved also.

Earlier today I made a post and wanted the word "which". My auto correct or whatever it is decided that I really wanted "witch".

Not a super big deal, the spell check found nothing wrong with the word and I should have caught it.

I really don't need that kind of help and I wish that I could shut these "helpful" tools off.

99% of the Federal jobs can be outside of the capital city.

That would be proven if the nation’s capital were moved to North Dakota. :-)
