This was a well written and researched news story, surprising that it was printed in the Washington Post.
The only gains the Democrat party have made with white voters are young liberal college graduates already living in heavy Democrat states. I know the type and still don’t get how you can work 60 hours a week and vote for people who want to take away more of your hard earned money. They also lose a good portion of this demographic when the women marry and have multiple children. The liberal guys will typically stay liberal but 1/3 to 1/2 of the women change their voting habits.
It’s definitely equivocating and making a false argument around the edges though. It states:
As most whites shift rightward, they perceive the Democratic Party to be shifting leftward.
If he had said “they see” rather than “they perceive” it would not carry the connotative baggage.
and then he summarizes:
This shift in white voting behavior is the result of changes of the parties’ positions and the country’s demographics.
Now I have to ask you what “and the country’s demographics” is doing in that sentence? He just cannot bring himself to tell the truth without hedging it in some sort of “blame whitey” sort of a way.
