President Donald Trump has wrenched the United States back to the brink of a constitutional showdown after a weekend of rage culminated in his demand for an investigation into claims that the Obama administration inserted a spy in his 2016 campaign.
Trump's power play injected fresh intensity into his escalating political offensive against the Justice Department and renewed worries he is barging across long-held boundaries between the judicial system and the Oval Office.
It also raised potential scenarios that would threaten the integrity of US governance: first, that Trump could use his power to go after a political opponent and, second, that he means to derail or even end a criminal probe into his own conduct.

Trump's fury peaked with a tweet that coincided with cresting coverage on conservative media of the unproven claim that an FBI confidential source in the Russia investigation could have been a spy sent by Obama administration officials to damage Trump.

Shortly after his outburst, the Justice Department said its inspector general had been asked to assess whether there was any political impropriety in the use of the confidential source, as part of an existing probe into aspects of the Russia investigation.

CNN legal analyst Paul Callan said that he found it "bizarre" that Rosenstein acted on an order to start an investigation via tweet.
"I mean, wouldn't the President call him in? Wouldn't there be a little bit of nuance in the order?" Callan asked, speaking with CNN's Ana Cabrera.

I don’t understand why the MSM would pull its punches in reporting these revelations. It was established in Obama’s first term that the Obama Admin had used the FBI to spy on reporters, supposedly to quell leaks.
The lower echelons in the departments are awfully quiet in the face of the attempted coup which not only involved the FBI, but the CIA and Justice.
I hope the country survives.

This cannot have the appearance of political retribution, which I expect the MSM and the rest of the left would turn up the volume and repeat ad nauseam. They of course will want to remain unaccountable and play the victim role.
A simple question has to be asked. If they in fact spied on Trump, and Trump were to be elected, did they not consider that they could find their corruption exposed and themselves in legal jeopardy? If Trump was spied on illegally by his political opposition using the assets and resources of OUR federal government, then why should the Trump administration be precluded from investigating criminal wrongdoing, even by his political opponents? BHO used that argument against small fish Dinesh D’Souza.
As long as the investigation is transparent, the facts put out for all to see, and the system of checks and balances is used (prosecution, judge, jury), the show should go on despite the left’s outrage. Would I sign on to an independent counsel - still considering whether that would be best in this case. When the dust settles over the decades forward, the truth will prevail, and hopefully our system of government will be restored to its proper role, operated by responsible civil servants in the true sense of the word.

What an indictment of the integrity of the people who were entrusted with the power of OUR government. They just knew HRC was going to be elected. And had that happened, NONE of this would have ever come out until decades later, if ever.
For someone who was confirmed and entrusted to lead the CIA... his statement is quite shocking to say the least. Let’s see who comes to his defense.
