As tensions with Trump deepen, Europe wonders if America is lost for good

BERLIN - Since Jan. 20, 2017, European leaders have managed U.S. relations with one eye on the clock, anxiously counting down the hours until President Donald Trump’s term is up and hoping the core of the Western alliance isn’t too badly damaged in the meantime.

But as Trump’s aggressive rhetoric toward America’s closest allies has evolved into hostile action this spring, a new fear has swept European capitals.

Trump may not be an aberration that can be waited out, with his successor likely to push reset after four or eight years of fraught ties. Instead, the blend of unilateralism, nationalism and protectionism Trump embodies may be the new American normal.

“It is dawning on a number of European players that Trump may not be an outlier,” said Josef Janning, head of the Berlin office of the European Council on Foreign Relations. “More and more people are seeing it as a larger change in the United States.”

Even before Trump was elected, Europeans sensed that Washington’s traditional role as guarantor of the continent’s security and stability was slipping away, and that post-World War II ties were fading along with the generations that forged them....

What “Europe” is that? They talk of a consensus when there is none, starting with nations dissenting with the EU commission’s wish to condemn the US moving its embassy to Jerusalem... oh, because we know the Kalifate seeks to move its capital to Brussels...

Spot on. My first thought was; yes Europe, any influence or control you have over the USA will be lost for good.

"- They are involved in the spy ring created to impeach Trump. This will eliminate the trade deal possibilities. (Or they'll have to come begging)"

That's what I'm talking about right there. Australia joined them in this, and Trump was already extremely pissed at Australia for their little deal with Obama dumping all those terrorists they didn't want on us! To show how bad feelings are with the UK, they snubbed the POTUS from any invite to their biggest do of the century today.

Consequences, consequences, consequences.

Europe mortally wounded itself between 1914 and 1918. It died between the 1930s and 1950s, and is now in advanced decay.

I believe it will be reborn, but in fire and blood, and its existing elite will be compost by then.

Birnbaum has been a WaPo hitman against Trump for a long time. Fortunately nobody takes him seriously, Shirley.

Europe is at a tipping point right now - either master and stop illegal immigration, or fall to the Mosque. There is no other choice if any European country wants to keep its own cultural and historical identity. Otherwise it will be more “No_Go Zones”, police afraid to do their jobs, Sharia law, mob rule, more anti-Semitism (seems European has it down pat), and street violence on a scale not seen since WW2.

Guess “WHO ISNT’COMING THIS TIME”!!!

Impeached in 2019 after Republican voters turn against the GOP and stay home creating a Democrat win in both Houses; subsequently Convicted and Removed in the Senate a few moths later.

Even if the first part of your premise happens, it takes a 2/3 majority in the senate to convict a President, that is 67 votes and that will NEVER HAPPEN.

Don't say stuff that shows how stupid you are.

Well, we’re still having babies and Europe isn’t, so I’m not sure winning back the US into their global nation destruction machine is going to be an issue.

It’s not an opinion or a value statement - it’s a math problem.

That is a slam, an ad hominem. How do you know what will ever happen? .. have crystal ball? Or are you just trying to make trouble?

I think the only reason to intervene would be to
make sure the UKs nukes wouldn’t fall into Muslim control

My predictions about future events have as much validity as do yours, which is NONE.

I have a better chance of being correct because it takes 67 senators to convict, and even if the demonRATS squeak out a slim senate majority of one or two, {which I doubt will happen} it would take at least 12-15 pubbie senators voting to convict Trump.

Calling you stupid is not an ad hominem, it is just a cruel statement of fact... you are stupid.

Calling you a stupid ass is an ad hominem, and I will.

Just because you were a Morse Code intercept operator spying on the Soviets in Turkey doesn't make you smart. USS Alaska is not a troll, just an accurate observer.

Sorry, I was never a Morse code op.

He's a troll regardless as far as I'm concerned.

He and you both have ignored these words from the Admin and doubled down, needlessly.

For the ‘crime’ of my stating what could be a possibility, you both got awful upset. Why was that exactly?

Excuse me, but you called someone a troll and I only said being a Morse Code intercept operator doesn't make you smart.

You replied that you were never a Morse code op so how can you cry about being attacked?

It’s about time these socialist European countries started taking care of themselves instead of relying on U.S. taxpayers to protect them and prop them up. We have been very good and generous to these countries and they do not appreciate us.
