Before I was sent out to use it, I had to prove an intimate familiarity with my weapon how it worked, its maximum effective range in meters, how to load and unload it safely, how to disassemble and reassemble it, how to clean it, clear jams, sight it and fire it accurately. So its hard for me to fathom how easy it is for almost any civilian to walk out of a gun retailer carrying a new weapon without a clue about so many of these standards.
And where military and law enforcement undergo extensive training on how to make the right shooting decision quickly while under extreme stress, civilians receive no such training, contributing to avoidable deaths arising from poor decisions and petty disputes. In this context, the National Rifle Associations favorite slogan about good guys with guns defeating bad guys with guns is more naive myth than solution.
Its crucial that veterans now bring our voice and experience to the national conversation about reasonable gun reform. As a group, we understand guns and appreciate that responsible gun ownership is an important part of American life but we also understand that a safe environment is achieved through training and regulation.

Amen
What a bunch of pure outhouse fillings.
Leftists have gotten very good at using their operatives in every segment to make it look like all of that segment agrees with their narrative. Bastards.
Are there some twisted leftist veterans? Unfortunately yes. I personally could never understand how any veteran could be a leftist. It’s like used motor oil and vinegar to be vet AND a leftist.
It just means freedom fighters across the country will have to unite to work harder to counter the propaganda. The gun-grabbing left has clearly mobilized to make a full-on assault on our civil rights. They can not be allowed to succeed.
It really is a red flag. Anytime a leftist uses the word “reasonable” we know they are lying right through their teeth. Proven fact time and again.
“So its hard for me to fathom how easy it is for almost any civilian to walk out of a gun retailer carrying a new weapon without a clue about so many of these standards.”
Shame on this veteran for not knowing the difference between his ass and his elbow.
About that, Diamond, you @$$hole, you somehow missed the studies that show that civilians who are involved in shootings are more likely than cops to make the right shoot / no shoot decision. And just how many "avoidable deaths" are we talking about here? 5 million? 70 million? 3?
I can make these kinds of nonsensical rhetorical points all day long, such as gun controllers are universally known to rape goats. Prove me wrong.
God I do hate these people.
I bet this vet is actually more upset that he hasnt been able to get used to thong underwear.
I really resent military people thinking the civilians are dysfunctional and need to be subservient to so called functional military types
I have been too long in the army to believe this crap. Private Jacka$$ who would never be able to hold a civilian job and thus went in the military is all too real
The shooter in Santa Fe didn't shoot himself in the foot. He didn't suffer from inability to hit what he was aiming at. No amount of training would have caused him to do anything other than what he did.
What was missing from the shooter's life was any appreciation for the value of other people's lives or even his own life.
This loser will now spend the rest of his life in prison (if not executed) and he probably didn't truly make a rational decision to do what he did. He acted out emotionally just as many progressives recommend. It's a formula for a lifetime of failure.
I haven't heard that this loser had had run ins with the law, but I would bet he was an undisciplined mess throughout his short life. I doubt very much that this was his first episode of acting out.
Some of us grew up with firearms and were trained by WW2 combat veterans on the safe use of firearms, how to clean and operated them and firearms safety. There was a day when all scouting camps had firearms training to reinforce proper use.
>>>but we also understand that a safe environment is achieved through training and regulation<<<
I guess he thinks the same applies to the First Amendment.
Friggin Nazi scum.
“...Before I was sent out to use it, I had to prove an intimate familiarity with my weapon..”
Well. aren’t you special.
>> civilian gun culture is a dysfunctional mess
Perfectly describes the value of the 2nd Amendment.
Excluding hunters, enthusiasts, and the “aware”. every other citizen will likely be dysfunctional. However, they’ll have an advantage against the trespassing socialists that aim for unconditional surrender.
Exactly. What does this guy want — better trained, more competent mass shooters? His argument makes no sense when you really look at it.
Of course what he’s really revealing here is the standard leftist contempt for the average citizen. It’s the notion that liberty is only for members of the expert caste. In this case his practical problem is that his experts — LEOs and military — don’t exactly tower over the average gun owner in their expertise.
While being able to clean a gun is crucial to most of us, the handling of the weapon is the most important part - if one can't figure most of that out by himself he's too stupid to own a gun.
He just moved his lips while crossing fingers behind his back.
Nice. LOL
The guy is full of sh*t.
Former “Military Intelligence”... In other words a POG, REMF, Fobbit, etc. He’s someone who only went to the range once a year, and more than likely had his card pencil whipped.
And your proof that the military is anti 2nd Amendment is?
I assume these people started out as anti-freedom lefties and joined our military to get training and a resume that could be used to harm normal Americans. To them, taking a vow they don't mean is nothing; lying for the cause is celebrated in the far-left globalist/socialist culture. These people disgust me.
