But could I have stood up to what kind of crap kids are inundated with? They get served hypnotic sludge by the schools, by the media, by the marketers of everything from videogames to music to movies to clothing, the political parties (one in particular) and now from (many) churches. Add in the virtual peer pressure courtesy of the internet and I don't know but what I would be lost.
Regarding the last point, I do not see how Facebook and other social media sites avoid scrutiny for any number of crimes, as they have facilitated some awful things simply by providing a pipeline to some of the worst not just in the neighborhood, but on the planet. Craig'sList alone has been a catalyst for how many murders?
I often think of how lucky I was to not have social media and the internet growing up. It’s hard for me to imagine someone looking back from the year 2050 and thinking the rise of the 24 hour news cycle, instant internet from smart phones and social media platforms was this really great thing for society.
