Notably:

"California, New Mexico and Hawaii have the largest share of struggling families, at 49% each. North Dakota has the lowest at 32%."

What do you know? Leftist Utopia ain't so great.

Fake legacy news CNN can’t understand it.

No mention of eight years of obama economics, QE1, QE2, QE3, QE4, HARP, HAMP, TARP, Stimulus, Cash for Clunkers, Operation Twist, adding more to the deficit than all other previous administration combined and accounting for inflation, bank bailout after bailout after bailout, etc.

It is the housing and rental costs that are out of control.

What a contrast California and North Dakota are. Wouldn’t you figure it the opposite if you look at the GDP of these states. California is supposed to be the 7th largest economy in the world, but they have half their population can’t stay afloat.

The difference it would seem is all about the culture. Those trained and indoctrinated with an entitlement mentality versus those who learned rugged self sufficiency.

They would if they had a budget. But no,they are too busy buying 70” TVs, having to have sat TV in every room, new cars every two years, every kid they have playing every sport and attending all functions, and so on.

The old ways of living within your means means nothing anymore. They will wine and cry until someone bails them out.

They could afford the basics if they developed a sense of responsibility, went out and got jobs and kept those jobs.

Maybe their could give up their fancy cell phones, tats, manicures, and fancy cars so they could pay the rent and feed the children. The mothers clearly have been feeding themselves.

Well, we could give them another tax cut, but I’m guessing the democrats would complain about that, too.

Define “struggling”. Is that like working 40 hours a week?

Oh bull, CNN.
My tax dollars alone probably support one or two families on the dole.

The current boom reminds me of the Reagan boom when I grew up. I went from dead broke white trash teenager to making a ton of money working construction and putting myself through college and law school. Unless someone is ill or has a handicap, there is no excuse not becoming very well off.

Something tells me this will be the last chance to truly make it as demographics are not on our side. I hope to be in Montana, Wyoming or Idaho with my feet up on the front porch staring at a mountain by then.

There are two definitions missing:
What is a basic, middle-class life?
What does it mean to survive the modern economy?

If they have to pay for Obamacare insurance, I can believe it. I don’t know anyone especially with kids who doesn’t have to spend at least $1000 a month for the crap.

California and Hawaii are next to the Pacific Ocean.

The Pacific Ocean is full of Fish that people can eat.

I’m sure New Mexico has some nice Lakes as well.

Is this the same as the new found Homeless Epidemic that didn’t exist between January 2009 and January 2017?

“For instance, in Seattle’s King County, the annual household survival budget for a family of four (including one infant and one preschooler) in 2016 was nearly $85,000. This would require an hourly wage of $42.46. But in Washington State, only 14% of jobs pay more than $40 an hour. “

The summary reporting results could be making more apples-to-oranges like the one above. Data and the relevance of data for Seattle’s King County cannot be compared to data for the whole state of Washington. King county, hosting as it does Microsoft and other large technology companies is bound to have not just higher wages, but a higher cost of living than large parts of the state. Therefor it is not relevant that only 14% of the state has wages like King County. Quite likely only some similar % of the state has a cost of living like King County as well.

“...don’t earn enough to afford a monthly budget that includes housing, food, child care, health care, transportation and a cell phone...” after paying for cable tv, alcohol/drugs, cigs, while working at a lousy job because they cannot read/write, pass a drug test, show up for work...

News flash for CNN: A middle class lifestyle is not easy to obtain or hold. The good news in this country is that even a lower class lifestyle is still good.

My middle class lifestyle for 4 years was a rusty Pinto, brown bagged peanut butter sandwiches, a 12” b/w tv, popcorn, and board games in a 600 sq.ft. apartment. But it also included a hard working wife, church, solid family support, and good friends. We didn’t have money but we were not poor.

I call B.S. on that.

If half the families can’t afford rent I should be able to look out my window and see tent cities for as far as the eye can see.

The cost of living is higher in America than it should be. It’s worse in the liberal states. This is the result of socialism.
