An "explosive" eruption from Kilauea's summit on Thursday morning sent an ash plume soaring some 25,000 feet into the air, and officials are warning that the ash will cover a large part of the Big Island.

The National Weather Service has issued an ashfall advisory after radar showed the massive plume.
Hawaii Volcano Observatory officials confirmed that there was an explosive eruption, but still have yet to assess whether it was a steam-driven explosion that they have been warning residents about for several days.
I was wondering if this was going to be like Mt. Pinatubo as well.
When the pyroclastic flows reached the survivors at Herculaneum, the heat was so intense that it flash-cooked their brains and the resulting steam fractured their skulls.

When I was there in 1995, it was making the Big Island bigger.
The skulls they showed when they were discussing this looked pretty intact to me, so I don't think any really exploded, more cracked than anything.
HAwaii is the only state in the union that is growing larger geographically due to the volcano adding acreage.
I think the point is the photos make it look like it’s right next to them but it’s so huge it’s actually 20 miles away or something. I’m sure the authorities have placed a ring around it.
I’m just considering its implications regarding global warming/climate change. We’re all going to die.

Actually it’s about 2 miles away. And the press is hyping this latest “eruption” at the summit (most of it is occurring about 20mile down-rift).

Now that is ONE way to lower your score. Besides, if a big crack opens up on the green you can putt with greater ease.
