Trump represents the American spirit. Every politician could do it, if they were God fearing honorable men just like Trump and the 70 million people who elected him.
What is needed is a defined political foundation that can continue to exist beyond Trump’s term(s) as president.
One option is to remodel the Republican Party so extensively that it becomes that foundation. Very little progress has been made on that since 2016 in my opinion, and the Republicans are clearly set to go back to being the Democrat-lite option on the ballot as soon as Trump stops forcing them to shift slightly to the right.
The other option would be to create a new party and have Trump represent that party in 2020. It could be called something like the American Freedom Party but I have not google searched the vast array of splinter parties that already exist. Trump is more libertarian than most GOP members seem to be, so perhaps just retool the Libertarian Party to rid it of a few isolationist tendencies and come to some rational consensus about marijuana (I am not that keen on legalized marijuana after reviewing the trainwreck of results in WA and CO, plus BC where I live, not legal as such but might as well be in practice). Perhaps the more appropriate position there would be reduced legal penalties for private use, but not necessarily creating a pot economy and encouraging its use by drivers of motor vehicles.
Anyway, a party in honor of this exceptional president, with the task of finding worthy successors. That’s what is needed, otherwise yes this Trump phenomenon will be like the Reagan years, a golden interlude in an otherwise unbroken chain of liberal centrist progressive globalist horsecrap (that’s a mild term for what I would use in a private conversation). :)
